Wildlife

The natural areas of Jericho Park are home to many native and non-native species.

Beavers and otters can often be found in the pond.

Pacific tree frogs are often seen and usually heard.

Jericho is a popular location for bird watching and is site of a yearly winter bird count.  In December 2015, the following birds were spotted by Nature Vancouver members:

cooper’s hawk, Anna’s hummingbird, Red-breasted sapsucker, downy woodpecker, northern flicker, stellar’s jay, black-capped chickadee, bushtit, wren, varied thrush, american robin, starling, towhee, starling, song sparrow, golden-crowned sparrow, dark-eyed junko, red-winged blackbird, house finch, pine siskin, american goldfinch.

Great blue herons started nesting in Jericho in 2015, and they are back in 2016.
